Success for Strandberg in tcr germany

Dennis Strandberg once again showed he knows how to drive a car fast. Turning up at the track Wednesday afternoon and meeting up the the new team Target Competition. All new for Dennis, new team, new car, new track and new championship.

Thursday was test day and Dennis just punched lap after lap to get to know the track and to know the circuit. Friday was official test and Strandberg started FP1 in p1 after a qualifying simulation and got p8 in FP2 when he did a long run.

Friday afternoon, well almost Friday night 18.25 qualifying started heading out last on track was Dennis ready to push really hard. Qualifying in TCR is Q1 and Q2. Q1 is for everyone of course and then top 12 goes to Q2 to fight for the top positions. Dennis ended Q1 in P2, behind Teammate and 2016 TCR Germany Champion Josh Files. With more then half a second to p3 he got in to the pits and were getting ready for Q2.
Unfortunately there was a crash in the very last corner which took to much time so Q2 was cancelled.

Race 1 on Saturday was Dennis first ever race in TCR. The circuit just had one dry line and the rest was damp, so very tricky conditions but after a good start from the damp inside of the start/finish straight he was still in p2 going in to corner one. But after a mistake going in to the hairpin Dennis lost a position to Kirsch but managed to get it back in the last corner of lap 1. Strandberg was doing a good job keeping up with Files for the whole race and finished P2.

Race 2 Sunday afternoon, from a starting position of p8 due to a reversed grid. You qualify for the first race and then they take top 10 and reverse. Due to the car that crashed in Q1 some of the drivers were pushed forward one spot.
So from p8 Dennis got of the line quick, two cars in front failed their starts so Dennis had to quickly go to the right side of them and going in to the first corner Dennis was up to P4. But after a little Target Competition driver meeting in the first corner Strandberg, Larsson and Files got together and Dennis had to run wide. Into corner two was more action. Dennis got pushed from behind and going out of corner it was so tight and Dennis got squeezed up between two cars and the car on the left came spinning in front of Dennis and Dennis hit him in the side that made Dennis lose even more.

So safety car was deployed and Dennis from p6 now had a mission! Restart and Dennis quickly gained two positions on the long parabolic straight. The lap after again, he gained even one more on the straight going in to the hairpin getting p3. And again Dennis had the better run going on to the long straight and managed to cut back in the hairpin to get P2. all in 3 laps! Now it was time to charge for that P1.
Dennis fought very hard and managed to get up to Kirsch but he ran out of time and after a number of tries to pass he had to settle with P2!

Dennis words: This was definitely better then i could ever imagine! I came here with no expectation and just to have a good time and learn something new. But to be up there with the top straight away is just fantastic! I would really like to thank Target Competition for a great weekend, a great car and a good laugh!
